ChemOffice & ChemDraw - Registration/Download Instructions
Communicate with the natural language of chemical structures, biological pathways, and models. All UA students and faculty need to register and sign in with their campus email address at the PerkinElmer site. The software can be installed on both Windows & Mac OS platforms. Returning members, log into the PerkinElmer membership link to renew/update/activate to the next version with your campus email address. For 3D modeling analogous to Chem3D on a Mac, we recommend Avogadro. People on berkeley.edu networks (Airbears, UCB VPN, campus wired connections etc) can download the ChemDraw JS toolkit. If you are upgrading from an old version of ChemDraw, ChemOffice or related products, you should fully uninstall the prior version first. There are three versions of Chem3D: fully configured Chem3D Pro (an old version for Macs available on Yale Mac clusters), Chem3D Ultra 8.0 (a free trial version that expires two weeks after you install it on your PC), and Chem3D ActiveX Net 8.0, which is free but won't do everything.

- Once you have registered, you can login to the PerkinElmer Download Center to
- Download the software and product user guides.
- Get the activation code that you will need to register your software.
- Before you leave the Download Center, go to Order History and click on the order number for Aug 17, 2018. You'll see the activation code, which you need to copy and paste into the form while you're installing or trying to use ChemDraw for the first time. (That should be the correct activation code.)
- After downloading MNova ChemDraw Edition, you should automatically receive an email from Mestrelab with the License ID. If you don't receive it within 24 hours, contact support@mestrelab.com with your UC San Diego email address.

ChemDraw is known to be one of the “go to” applications whenever you need to create chemical or biological representations. ChemDraw can also be used to help you visualize amino acids, peptides and RNA and DNA sequences.
To improve your workflow, ChemDraw comes with a collection of documents templates that can be accessed via the File menu. Here you can easily open stationaries, templates or sample files. The templates can be a good starting point if you are a student in need of guidance or if you are new to the application. Additionally, you can go online, within the application, to grab chemical structures from the ChemACX database.
The ChemDraw interface is quite clean and organized: the project canvas takes most of the available space. The main toolbar is enabled by default, but from the View menu you can easily disable it. You may also open new ones, such as the General Toolbar, the Style Toolbar or the Object Toolbar. More specific tools can be accessed via the “Other toolbars” menu.
Additionally, ChemDraw allows you to keep open windows that will help you analyze formulas, view the chemical properties of a certain element, the Periodic Table of Elements and much more. ChemDraw also enables you to include text in your projects, and provides basic text editing tools: you can change the font style, color, size or alignment.
ChemDraw does not raise any issues as far as usability is concerned. Most features can be accessed through the main menus and windows. At the same time, the extensive documentation will help you make the most of the application’s tools and functions.
All in all, ChemDraw provides efficient and easily accessible chemical drawing tools that will greatly improve your workflow and help you create professional looking documents.
